As a Hoosier, I'm not well versed in the nuances of Fiesta. Believe me, I'm trying to get up to speed as quickly as possible with the traditions and customs. But please, would someone explain to me what's the deal with the medals?

I've seen layer upon layer of them on Fiesta royalty, on Fiesta officials, and just plain Fiesta party-goers. But not me.

I've seen El Rey Feo gladly handing them out to people of all descriptions. So let me whine just a little bit.....He didn't give me one (I know, I know...wa wa wa).

So how do I get one??? Is there a certain protocol? Do you have to be someone special? Am I not sleeping with the right person? Do I need to give one to get one? Where would I get them? Do I need to wear an empty sash so medal givers will know I'm desperate and have mercy on me? Is there a secret handshake?

Tuesday

Ok, the light bulb went off on the pins/medals. I guess I made too big of a deal of it. Trekked over to Main Plaza today for the Pindamoneum event and it finally occurred to me that I was making much ado about nothing.

The pins are just supposed to be another fun ascpect of Fiesta.

I actually got my first pin on Monday, although I think it was a mercy/pity pin (LOL). My friend Cheri, who was visiting from Indianapolis, picked up a Hard Rock pin for me. My first.

Then today at the pin event, a lady wearing a lavender cowboy hat noticed that I only had the Hard Rock pin. She asked if I'd like one of hers. To say the least, this Hoosier boy was thrilled. The pin was from her group, The Queens of Fun (pictured). Many, many thanks to the Queens, it was the first pin that has been given to me during Fiesta and it feels great. Kind of like I'm starting to belong. It's a great feeling.

The 63rd Rey Feo was there too, handing out pins and I was photographing the process. He even had one of the members of the royal entourage, walking two steps back and to the left, with a large bag of medals to refill the kings pockets. I must congratulate Captain Kirk for the use of the cloaking device. Despite being 6'4" and within a foot of his kingship, Rey Feo never saw me or offered a medal. I even had my lime green shoes on. Maybe next time....LOL

Friday, 10:03 a.m.

It can't get much campier than Cornyation. What a fantastic time!

You don't find a production quite like this in Indiana I can tell you that. My friends and I sat two rows from the ceiling for the 8pm Thursday show and it was a vertigo inspiring point of view. But the point was, we were there. Given that I was told that tickets sold out in 12 minutes I was just thrilled to be there.

I was introduced to Caren (Sarah Palin) at the intermission. She was nice enough to take me on a whirlwind tour of the backstage haunts and dressing rooms. You could feel the energy and frenzy of the whole performance in those area's. It was quite a treat to be allowed the access and to photograph it.

But the real treat came after the show. The performers all were mingling outside near the stage door and there were hundreds of people soaking in the atmosphere. The eye candy was completely of-the-charts. For sure it was not something that you'll see in Indianapolis very often.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention that I also scored some pins. Many thanks to the Celebrity Millionaire Matchmaker, The Pointless Sisters, and to Beautimous Barbitual Barbie! These will not be traded!

One bit of a downside. The fine folks at SAPD were a little aggressive in dealing with the people who were hanging out near the stage door after the performance. Trying to keep them out of the slightly used, one-block section of street was a little much. Next year, can't that half block portion be closed for a little bit after the show? Just a thought.
